~To Extend or Not to Extend~

Extensions are very popular when it comes to special occasion hair styling. They are great for adding length and/or volume.

If you're a bride, strongly consider having your extensions at the time of your trial style. It's very important for the stylist to handle the "hair" and work it into your bridal do.

Below are some pros and cons I found online to help you decide if extensions are best for you:

Get Hair Extensions for a wedding?

PROS

  • Your hair will look fabulous for your wedding day. You will be able to look at photos for years to come and remember how great you looked on your wedding day.
  • You can create a stunning look that draws gasps from your guests
CONS
  • You will spend a lot of money
  • You may damage your hair (if the extensions are not attached and removed properly) or stress out about your hair being damaged or the extensions falling out.
1. Bonded Hair Extensions PROS
  • Less costly than permanent extensions
  • You can usually go with cheaper quality (and price) human or synthetic hair since you will be wearing them for a short period of time
CONS
  • Bonded extensions have been known to cause hair damage during removal
  • Will need to do a trial run weeks if not months before the wedding. (May require installation/removal )
2. Permanent Hair Extensions PROS
  • Trial run not a problem--can get these extensions 1 month before wedding and keep them in.
  • You can get used to having long beautiful hair before your wedding
CONS
  • Extensions don't work for everyone. Sometimes you don't know if they will work for you until you get them. I get many Emails from women who say they had healthy hair and it is now ruined after wearing hair extensions.
  • Very expensive!! {Prices range from $500-5,000 and higher, plus the cost of the extension hair)
  • Very addictive--once you see yourself with long beautiful hair, you won't want to take them out.
  • Need to research methods/ stylists---Don't just go to any salon and get hair extensions--you may be sorry!
3. Clip-In Hair Extensions PROS
  • Cause little or no hair damage and can be removed by yourself
  • Much less expensive than permanent hair extensions
  • You can re-use the clip-in hair extensions whenever you want
  • Peace of mind
CONS
  • You will need to search for a stylist that has experience putting in clip-in extensions
  • Although cheaper than permanent extensions, they are still expensive.

In our personal experience, the clip in extensions have worked best for us. They are easy to clip in and work the natural hair around. We've styled fusion bonded extensions and had a hard time styling the hair to show fullness and hide the base of the extension.

~Floral Hair Accessories~

Spring weddings are perfect for floral hair accessories. They can add a fresh and bright touch to any style.

Brides, be careful not to OVER accessorize your hair. Too many/much can make you look like a flower girl instead of the gorgeous bride.

If you're bold, pick a large, jeweled flower. If you're wanting a more simple look, choose a small, delicate floral clip. A small, jeweled hair accessory can make a big statement.

The Pre-Raphaelite Trend

Recently I've been seeing references to Pre-Raphaelite waves, and I'm really liking it!  Especially since I've decided to grow my hair out…Waterhouse has always been one of my favorite artists, ever since I went through a Camelot craze when I was twelve.  I think it's a great look, an easy everyday hairstyle.  Here's an interesting article on hair from a Pre-Raphaelite enthusiast's blog.

Just look at the similarities between these next two pictures!  Gorgeous!

And from Imitation's Spring 2012 Runway show…the long, wavy hair and flower wreath are pretty obvious, don't you think?

Some more inspiration via pinterest…

One last image, this one has also been circulating on Pinterest.  Apparently if you section hair into 5-10 pieces and braid each loosely, run a flat iron over them, let them cool, spray with hairspray and undo the braids, the below is what you'll end up with.  Haven't tried it yet, but I'm definitely going to!  A 3-barrel waving iron is a quick and easy way to get a similar look.  What do you think of Pre-Raphaelite inspired tresses?  Will you be trying this look out?

~L.O.V.E~

Valentine's Day is fastly approaching. Any guy that was smart, would agree to a February wedding, right? I mean, being able to just give 1 gift and have V-Day and the anniversary covered...
Us girls outsmart them every time though. Only 7% of brides get married in February.

Most popular hair style in February weddings is an updo.
